BY-LAWS
ARTICLE
I
PURPOSE
SECTION 1.01: The Blue Knights® International Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club, Inc., South Carolina Chapter VIII,
is hereinafter referred to in these By-Laws as Beaufort Chapter VIII, and is an affiliated member of the Blue Knights® International
Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club, Inc.,
SECTION
1.02: Beaufort Chapter VIII shall have and follow By-Laws as presented by the Board of Directors and voted on by the general membership;
however, in no case will any business of Beaufort Chapter VIII be done in conflict with the Constitution and By-Laws of International.
Where specific issues are not addressed by Beaufort Chapter VIII By-Laws, but are addressed by International By-Laws, the International
By-Laws will apply.
SECTION 1.03: The purpose of Beaufort Chapter VIII is:
· To promote a better image of motorcycling
· To promote
social fellowship, harmony, and closer personal friendships amongst its membership
· To assert a wholesome influence on the public
toward respect for motorcycling and public relations for Police Agencies in the State of
ARTICLE II
MEMBERSHIP
SECTION
2.01: Membership in Beaufort Chapter VIII shall be divided into the following categories:
1) Regular Members
2) Associate Members
3) Honorary Members
4) Special Honorary Member (Chapter Chaplin)
All membership qualifications will be as defined by the International
Articles of Incorporation and by-laws.
SECTION 2.02: The tenure of all memberships is from January 1st to December 31st or any
portion of the intervening period.
SECTION 2.03: Honorary Members will be voted on by the general membership. They must first
be nominated, in writing, by a Regular or Associate Member of Beaufort Chapter VIII. Each Honorary Member must receive a majority
vote of the members present and eligible to vote at the meeting. If an Honorary Member is removed from Beaufort Chapter VIII for disciplinary
reasons, Beaufort Chapter VIII will buy back any Blue Knight paraphernalia, at fair market price.
SECTION 2.04: Applicants for
Regular and Associate membership to Beaufort Chapter VIII will be accepted under the following criteria:
1) Must be sponsored by one
regular or associate member in good standing.
2) Must apply in person, with international dues, at a meeting of Beaufort Chapter VIII,
with the sponsor present.
3) President or Vice President will complete a background check to establish eligibility. Discrepancies,
if any, will be presented to the board members for review.
4) President or Vice-President will authorize (sign) the application and
the Vice-President will forward it to the International for approval.
5) Once approved by the International, the president or Vice-President
will present the applicant with their official credentials at a regular monthly meeting where the Secretary will collect Chapter Dues.
SECTION
2.04.1 Honorary membership
Persons who have contributed substantially to the promotion of the international motorcycle safety and enjoyment or to the development of the sport of motorcycling may be designated honorary members by Beaufort Chapter VIII as herein provided. A person must first have his honorary membership proposed in writing by at least seven (7) members of Beaufort Chapter VIII who are in good standing. The Beaufort Chapter VIII Board of Directors shall make the final determination whether a person qualifies as an honorary member of the chapter, by virtue of his contributions to the International or the sport of motorcycling. Honorary memberships will be granted on a one-year basis and will be evaluated on a one-year basis and will be evaluated by the Beaufort Chapter VIII Board of Directors at the chapter annual meeting. The Beaufort VIII Board of Directors may appoint a committee to evaluate honorary membership grants and renewals. The honorary membership may not exceed more than ten percent (10%) of the previous year's membership of Regular, Associate members of Beaufort VII chapter.
SECTION 2.04.2 Special Honorary membership (Chapter
Chaplin)
Beaufort Chapter VIII may grant Special Honorary membership status to an ordained member of a recognized religion or religious order for the position of chapter Chaplain. Beaufort Chapter VIII is limited to one (1) such position and selection may be by criteria established by the chapter not inconsistent with the Constitution and Bylaws.
SECTION 2.04.3 Members-at-Large
Persons who qualify for membership in one of the four membership classes of Beaufort Chapter VIII may be granted Member-at-Large status by the Chapter Board of Directors if such persons reside at least fifty (50) miles from Beaufort Chapter VIII mailing address. The Chapter Board of Directors may grant memberships-at-large without limit.
.SECTION 2.05: Membership in Beaufort Chapter VIII
shall terminate:
1) Upon the death of member
2) Failure of member to pay annual International Dues on or before the due date
3) Submission
of a written or verbal resignation by member to a Beaufort Chapter VIII Officer
4) For cause in accordance with International or Chapter
By-Laws
5) If a member no longer owns a motorcycle. (A one year grace period from the date of sale shall apply)
